Mary's House for Older Adults describes itself as Washington DC's first affordable LGBTQIA+ and same-gender-loving affirming communal living space for adults aged 60 and over. Its residence, the Anacostia Road House, opened east of the river in a part of the city that has very little affirming senior housing of any kind. The model is communal rather than apartment-block: independent older adults share a house and its common space, with the organization's stated aim being to celebrate the whole person as they age. It is framed explicitly as social-justice housing. The organization won an AARP Purpose Prize in 2022. Its administrative office is at 474 Ridge Street NW, separate from the residence.
